Author Guidelines

ETHICS AND EDITORIAL BEST PRACTICES

The Revista de Direito Sanitário (Journal of Health Law) adopts the ethical principles and editorial best practice guidelines advocated by:

• Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), in the "Core Principles".
• Council of Science Editors (CSE), in “CSE’s White Paper  on Promoting Integrity in Scientific Journal Publications"
• National Health Council Resolution No. 510 of April 7, 2016, regarding research in the human and social sciences.
• Singapore Statement on Research Integrity 

Editorial decisions regarding specific ethical issues are also based on recommendations from the following codes of editorial best practice: "Best Practices for Peer Reviewer Selection and Contact to Prevent Peer Review Manipulation by Authors" by the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME); the "Updated ICMJE Recommendations" by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE); and the "Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials" (SPIRIT-CONSORT).

The journal strongly recommends that authors and reviewers read these documents.

By submitting their manuscripts, authors agree to the terms of the journal's editorial policy and to the guidelines and principles set forth in the aforementioned documents.

Author responsibilities

The authors of a scientific paper are individuals who have made significant contributions to the research and the article, participating in the development of the methodology, data collection and analysis, and the drafting of the manuscript. All individuals identified as authors of the manuscript must have contributed to its preparation and must be familiar with its content.

The Revista de Direito Sanitário adopts the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) classification for roles and contributions. Upon manuscript submission, the corresponding author must complete the questionnaire detailing each author's contribution to the work.

Authors are responsible for:

• ensuring that the manuscript has not been submitted to any other publication, either concurrently with or after its submission to the Revista de Direito Sanitário;
• addressing any questions regarding the scientific merit of the research and the article, as well as the writing of the text;
• approving the final version of the article for publication;
• disclosing whether public and/or private funding was received for the work;
• disclosing any potential conflicts of interest of an academic, professional, political, personal, or financial nature;

In the case of articles with multiple authors, the primary contact author is responsible for all communication with the journal and is tasked with keeping the other authors informed about the submission and editorial production processes.

Opinions expressed in works published by the Revista de Direito Sanitário are the sole responsibility of their authors.

Use of AI

Authors must provide detailed information regarding which artificial intelligence (AI) tools were used and how—whether for research or data analysis, the production of images or graphic elements, or the writing of the article itself. This information must be included in the section describing the article's methodological procedures. Failure to disclose the use or content generated by AI is considered unethical behavior that violates the principles of transparency in research and scientific writing.

ORCID 

In accordance with recommendations from the databases where the Revista de Direito Sanitáriois indexed, authors of submitted manuscripts must be identified via ORCID.

The ORCID identifier is being adopted by educational and research institutions worldwide. It ensures the accurate identification of researchers on a global scale.

SECTIONS

The Revista de Direito Sanitário publishes original articles by Brazilian and international researchers in Portuguese, English, Spanish, and French, featuring the following types of content:

Original Article: presentation of previously unpublished research articles offering distinct approaches that stimulate reflection on new ideas and concepts related to the field of health law.
Maximum length: 9,000 words, including references and footnotes.

Review Article: a critical, up-to-date assessment of previously published scientific articles on a specific topic of interest to the field of health law.
Maximum length: 9,000 words, including references and footnotes.

Case Study: this section is dedicated to analyzing significant legal documents and court rulings in the field of health law—both from Brazil and abroad—serving as a guide for those interested in the legal efficacy of this area of ​​law.
Maximum length: 6,000 words, including references and footnotes.

Book Review: a critical review of books by Brazilian and international authors covering subjects in legal science and public health that are relevant to the field of health law.
Maximum length: 3,000 words, including references and footnotes.

The journal does not publish essays or articles translated from other periodicals.

Submission Documents

Manuscripts submitted for publication must be accompanied by the following documents (which must be uploaded to the platform as supplementary files).

1. Title page containing the following elements:

Manuscript title in the original language and in English

Author names (without academic titles)

Institutional affiliation: Institution. Faculty/Institute. Department. City/State (abbreviation), country.

Author information (short biography/profile of no more than 70 words)

Corresponding author and email address

Conflict of interest statement

• If there are no conflicts of interest, use the standard phrase: “The authors declare no professional or personal interests that could create a conflict of interest regarding this manuscript” (See the *Authors' Responsibility* and *Conflicts of Interest* sections under Editorial Policy).

Funding sources: if the research project was funded by a public and/or private institution, provide funding details according to the following format: Name of funding agency. Name of funded project. Project identification number.

For work presented at an event, indicate: Name of the event, City/State, country, and dates (mm/dd/yyyy to mm/dd/yyyy).

For work based on a thesis or dissertation, provide: Author's name. (Year). Title of thesis/dissertation (Dissertation/Thesis). Name of the institution where the work was conducted. City.

GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

Manuscripts must be submitted as a Word document.

The Revista de Direito Sanitário adopts the updated standards of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) for scientific articles.

Essential elements of submitted papers

Title in the original language and in English, with a maximum of 200 characters (including spaces).

Abstract in the original language and in English, with a maximum of 300 words, adhering to the following characteristics:

• indicate the subject of the paper;
• concisely describe the methods used;
• present the results in a logical order;
• discuss the compatibility (or lack thereof) between the results obtained and previous research;
• avoid using adjectives;
• use generally accepted terms rather than idiosyncratic ones;
• write as a single, single-spaced paragraph.

Keywords in the original language and in English; these must represent the content of the paper and must not exceed a total of five (5) terms.

Citations, notes, and references

1. Citations

Citations within the text must follow the (AUTHOR, date) system, in accordance with ABNT standard NBR 10520/Aug. 2002.

Direct citations within the text that are up to three lines long must be enclosed in double quotation marks. Example:

Sueli Dallari (2018) states: "currently, health does not have merely an individual aspect that concerns only the person."

Direct quotations within the text exceeding three lines must be set apart with a 4 cm indentation from the left margin, using 11-point font and without quotation marks. Example:

Instituted in areas not exclusive to the State and which do not require the exercise of authority: education, science and technology, culture, the environment, sports, tourism, communication, supplementary pension schemes, social assistance, and health, among others (Dallari, 2018, p. 15).

2. References

All works cited in the text must be included in the references list and vice versa, formatted in accordance with the ABNT – NBR 2023/2018 standard.

For references to electronic publications with a DOI, the DOI number must be provided.

Present the references according to the following examples:

Section numbering

The numbering of sections and subsections within the article must follow this system:

I (Roman numeral) – Title starts with a capital letter and must be in bold.

1 (cardinal numeral) – Title starts with a capital letter and must be in bold.

Example:

1 The right to health as a duty of the State

1.1 (cardinal numeral) – Title starts with a capital letter and must be in bold.

Note: The items "Introduction," "Final Considerations," and "References" are not numbered.
