Abstract

Aiming at understanding the heterogeneous set of social phenomena which, in nowadays, have been evolving into growingly complex realities, Boaventura Sousa Santos analyses and comments on the origins of those phenomena. In Pela Mão de Alice: o social e o politico na pósmodernidade, the author carries out an overview analysis of the building processes of the postmodernity project and speculates about the reasons which have determined its non fulfilment. Finally, he outlines some of the actual risks as, for instance, the postmodern individual being lost in the materiality of his/her existence and, therefore, transforming citizenship into consumism.
