Abstract

In the Amazonian region, many theories have been published to explain the origin of local biodiversity. These theories have, as consequences, different divergence times between the lineages and different distributional patterns. In this article, we briefly review some biogeographical concepts related to distributional patterns, as well as the main theories that attempt to explain Amazonian biodiversity. Finally, case studies of different living organisms groups are presented.
