Abstract

As part of a book on black's and mulatto's daily lifes in XVIIIth Century Minas Gerais, this article treats the nutritional aspects of that period of time. Corn, widelly used in the area, was the main crop, followed by manioc. Even though both were American products, corn and manioc were convenient for the system because, well liked by the slaves, they did not require the use of silverware or good teeth. Additional products, like pork meat, were found in the leading group's diets. Such products were imported.
