Abstract

This article makes an incursion in the domain of comparative history in an attempt of approaching certain aspects reserved to Jews in the Iberic Peninsula during the pre-modern period and in Germany during the modera era. In order to understand the different levels of antisemitism, the treatment Jews received from Western Christianity during the Middle Ages until modem limes is analyzed. Focusing on the Spanish issue, the author shows how the doctrine of blood purity contributed to the development of a new antisemitisrn, suiting the Christian phenomenon. Concepts are discussed, modem from religious antisemitism distinguished, the process of rupture and continuity explained, and the decisive moment in which the racial conception of Jews was conceived is identified.
