Abstract

The recent fire and collapse of a building in downtown São Paulo provided reflections about the heritage on the ephemerality of the heritage in the city. The sudden change in the system landscape material revealed the recurrent transformations of that space. An emptiness has arisen between superimposed layers of time, between what has already been and what is not yet: no more, but not yet. The facts are settling in the forgetfulness of the people who circulate there, suggesting other identifications with what has remained, new meanings recreate the identity of the place, which for now, is neither here nor there.
