Abstract

The restructuring of the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra (Osesp) caused an important growth and consolidation cycle in the musical life of the city, with important repercussions at the national level. At the same time, the orchestra’s project reproduces, with some variation and novelty, some of the elements of the consecrated model by Sociedade de Cultura Artística, one of the traditional institutions of legitimate culture in Brazil, for which reason it is sometimes viewed as an elitist institution.
