Abstract

We dedicate this text to the Prof. Dr. Régis Duprat (in memoriam), highlighting his artistic and intellectual contribution, besides his important influence on the education of students and the new generation of musicians and art researchers, especially musicology. This tribute, therefore, wishes to briefly recall significant moments of his life and career, with emphasis on his research on Brazilian colonial music and on the work of André da Silva Gomes (1752-1844), composer and chapel master of the São Paulo Metropolitan Cathedral, in 1774.
