Based on the analysis of the novel Um defeito de cor, by Ana Maria Gonçalves, the article focuses on the topic of black motherhood, emphasizing the links between the ways in which this representation takes place in the literature of black authorship in Brazil and the critical repertoire that seeks, from several areas of knowledge, to explain the perverse racist mechanisms of o b st r u c t i o n t o t h e e x e r c is e o f motherhood by the black women of the country.
