Abstract

The current article aims to discuss the autobiographical narratives of Ferreira Gullar, a Brazilian intellectual and poet. In the genre diversity written by the author, we can identify an “autobiographical moment” in which he recurrently reorganizes his relations with the past from the present urgency. In these writings about himself there is the intention to position his route in a place of legitimacy in the field of forces of the Brazilian literature and culture. This work addresses the rereadings performed by the poet about his own path during the period from his performance in the concrete and neoconcretes neovanguards until his affiliation to the engaged forms of leftist agitation. The narratives about himself that Gullar performed between the late fifties and the early sixties found effectiveness through the advances and retreats of his aesthetic and political stances. These positions have an intrinsic relationship with the social and cultural turbulences in Brazil during the outbreak of the state of exception in 1964 and the intense repression after the AI-5. In these writings about himself, the poet give us a glimpse of both ruptures and permanences.
