Abstract

As an element of the open space system of cities, the cemeteries are justified as a research topic. It is currently noted that although they occupy large areas of the urban fabric, there is no relationship between them, composing spaces disconnected and without appropriation. Environmental concern is also urgent because those sites are subject to serious contamination. This article intends to analyze the major compositions of Brazilian cemetery spaces, possible methods for disposal of bodies and new technologies available, showing, in this way, that cemeteries may have significant collaboration in building more sustainable cities and positive urban landscapes.
