Tracing north Aegean amphora workshops: the case of Akanthos

This article explores the potential of studies on amphora workshops in northern Aegean. Indeed, amphorae have always been studied as carriers of information about trade routes, the organization and internal structures of societies, and also the participants in these routes. In this article, the author seeks to demonstrate how the analysis of material evidence recovered during excavations at amphora workshops can shed new light on local economies and their interactions with more distant markets. In addition to a general introduction to the topic, he explores the case of the amphorae of Akanthos in detail.
