In this text, I intend to present how the Ancient world is currently represented in featured articles on Portuguese Wikipedia. It is crucial to acknowledge the importance of texts written by non-specialists through Wikipedia, because these discourses are much more present to the general audience than outreach studies published by specialists, including learning materials, textbooks and other materials. Are these featured articles in consonance with the current state of academic debates, or do they reflect access to outdated views? Which subjects are popular, and how do they reflect current perceptions about ancient history and archaeology? The text presents the operational and legitimacy mechanisms of Wikipedia texts, and how specialists can help improve the content of the free encyclopedia.
