Abstract

The aim of this article is to describe and analyse the organization and administration of a Waldorf School - the Rudolf Steiner Secondary School at São Paulo - as an alternative approach to the highly bureaucratic administration of our schools. Starting form the assumption that there is parallelism between the administration of a school and its pedagogy, I attempt to demonstrate how this is there in the case of a Waldorf School: indeed, the application of the Waldorf pedagogy, centered in the relationship teacher-student, only can occur in a school where the organization and administration permit to the teacher a conscious and free action. Since the administration of a Waldorf School are based on the anthroposophic principles proposed by Rudolf Steiner, I start, although taking the risk of oversimplification, by describing some basic notions of Anthroposophy, as well as the consequent plan of social organization and pedagogical conception. Then, starting from the analysis of some general principles set by Steiner for the organization of the school, I describe and discuss its organizational structure, as well as some aspects of its operation, such as finance and personnel administration, which are rather divergent from the usual administrative procedures.
