Abstract

The present article discusses teacher job satisfaction/insatisfaction and other moments of his "praxis". An exploratory study, took place in 12 elementary schools of São Paulo city, in the years of 1978/1979. Thirty-one teachers were interviewed, in a heterogenous sample. The author shows that the factors of job satisfaction/insatisfaction are related to objective conditions of the job, depending less of the individual idiosyncrasies and more of the characteristics of the social system. The author suggests that the phenomenon of " job satisfaction/insatisfaction" must be interpreted not as a single event but as a public question, where the study of the social-historic conditions must be privilegiated, because the phenomenon is structurally linked to them.
