The competency concept has been defying all research efforts some decades now. There is not a clear understanding as to the performance pattern the teacher has to reach in order to be considered as competent. Consequently there is no agreement among research findings. Additionally, the results in the themselves are affected by the kind of research (experimental or descriptive) undertaken and by the different emphasis on teaching products or process. The clear definition of some competency related variables, like clarity, enthusiasm, or rapport, seems to be a necessary condition to the development of more useful works in this so controversial field.Downloads
