Abstract

This paper deals with birth live weight observed in the Nellore breed (Ongole) raised in Bauru, São Paulo State. Among 92 calves gathered for the study 47 were males and 45 were females. Average weight of the male calves at birth was 31.1 ± 0.53 kg. Among females calves the average weight was 28.0 ± 0.45 kg. The difference of 3.1 kg between male and female calves was considered significant. The range in the birth weight for male calves was from 26 to 40 kg. For female calves the range was from 22 to 33 kg.
