Abstract

The A. describes his observations on the “fundusof the. normal dag, seen under the light of stereoscopic biomicroscopy. His studies were made on about 80 retinae and his conclusions were based on percentages of 23 animals, on which the observations were complete. This work has 22 figures, all made by the author, some of which were used to illustrate the recent, publication of Prof. Cyro de Rezende, with whom the A. has been cooperating for over three years on search work on experimental hypertension. This work is divided in 7 chapters, as follows: The dog’s Tapetum nigrum — its particularities.; Tapetum lucidum — general considerations.; Particularities of the dog’s Tapetum lucidum — shapes, limits, colors, etc.; Vascularization of the dog’s retina — veins, veiny arc oj the papilla, arteries, vascular crossings, anastomosis, medium reflexes, etc.; Papilla of the optic nerve — forms, colors, limits, situation, etc.; Thickness of the retina — stereoscopic examination.; Pseudo macular region. The A. comments each particularity, describing in detail several items. Thus, he studies all the particulars of the colors of the Tapetum lucidum, mentioning its percentages and reminding the possibility of a correlation between these and the pureness of the breed. As to the vascularization oj the retina, he suggests a simple classification of the dog's “fundus” by the type of the veins immersion in the papilla; he studies the tortuosity and ramifications of the arteries and finally the much discussed question of the medium luminous reflex. Finally the A. raises the theory of a different region, similar to a human macula, but in the nasal region, to which he calls the attention of the students of the subject.
