The author, during his observations on the epidural anesthesia in cattle, has obtained very good results utilizing a 5 per cent procaine hydrochloride solution with suprarenine. This technique has shown that:
a) small doses (5 to 40 cc) are as effective as large doses of a 1 or 2 per cent solution used by other authors to produce a complete anesthesia of the tail, perineum, lumbar region, mammary glands, the hind-limbs, flanks, genital organs and abdominal wall to the region of the umbelicus;
b) the onset of the anesthesia is fast and its maximum extent is attained in the course of ten minutes; it persists for about two and a half hours;
c) this anesthesia provide excellent operating conditions with muscular relaxation in all regions concerned;
d) the author, during or after the anesthesia, has observed no accidents and complications.
