Abstract

This paper reports two cases of congenital absence of the gallbladder that
were found in post-mortem examinations performed on animals, one in a dog
and the other in a cat. There is no reference of such malformation in the Brazilian veterinary littérature and this seems to be the first time that the congenital absence of the gallbladder in dogs is reported in the world littérature. In both cases, there was not dilatation of the biliary passages and so it seems improbable the possibility of a compensatory mechanism admitted by some authors.
