Macrocytic anemia (pernicious type) observed in dog

A case of expontaneous macrocytic anemia suggesting the pernicious type has been related in dog. The blood examination has shown the following values: erytrocytes — 2,560,000 per mm3, hemoglobin — 7.82 g per cm3, volume packed red corpuscles 42 cm3 per 100 cm3, mean corpuscular volume — 164μ3, mean corpuscular hemoglobin — 30.5yy, color index — 1.4, volume index — 2.3, globular value — 1.3, leukopenia (2,827 per mm3) and megaloblasts has been found in blood smears. Nervous and cardiovascular symptoms have been observed. Contrasting the anemic state the animal was apparently in good nutritional condition.Downloads
