Abstract

Fructose-1,6-diphosphate aldolase was purified from beef heart by alcaline extraction and ammonium sulfate precipitation. Through the different steps, enzyme activity was always accompanied by hemeprotein, even in the best purified fractions. The behaviour of beef heart aldolase is quite different from the rabbit muscle aldolase which crystalizes at 0.52 - 0.56 saturation of ammonium sulfate. Beef heart aldolase precipitates at higher concentrations of ammonium sulfate but cristallization is not achieved in spite of the fact that reasonable activity is being found in several preparations.
