Abstract

The A A. studied in 400 equines — 200 horses (100 males and 100 females), 154 mules (77 males and 77 females) and 46 asinines (21 males and 25 females) — the variations concerning the behavior of the free taenia in the floating colon of these animals. The floating colon free border taenia appeared:
1) single at full lenght in the intestinal segment 227 times referring to 149 (74.5% ± 3.1) horses (77 males and 72 females), 70 (45.4% ± 4.0) mules (32 males and 38 females) and 8 (17.4% ± 5.4) asinines (4 males and 4 females);
2) with a disposition of the constituent elements showing unusual aspects in 135 cases, 34 (17.0% ± 2.6) horses (15 males and 19 females) 69 (44.9% ± 4.0) mules (37 males and 32 females), and 32 (69.6% ± 6.8) asinincs (24 males and 18 females);
3) constituted, in the proximal third, by two formations similar to it, but thinner and parallelly disposed, found in 30 observations related to 13 (6.5% ± 1.7) horses (6 males and 7 females) 11 (7.1% ± 2.1) mules(5 males and 6 females), and 6 (13.0% ± 5.0) asinines (3 males and 3 females);
4) finally, with the same disposition above described at the full lenght of the organ in the remaining 8 pieces referring to 4 (2.0% ± 1.0) horses (2 males and 2 females) and 4 (2.6r)i ± 1-3) mules (3 males and 1 female).
Sex was not statistically significant concerning = 5% within each group.
