A critical study of the guinea pigs potency test for efficiency evaluation of antirabies vaccines was performed by using 198 batches of High Egg Passage Flury vaccine. The results revealed a low reproductivity: 88 (44.5%) tests did not get the minimum standards limits (mortality of at least 80% in the control group), and 60 (30,3%) tests although satisfying such requirements did not give enough information to quantify the amount of challenge virus really employed. The authors suggest that this test might include as a judgment criteria a mortality between 80% and less than 1 0 0% of the animals from the control group.
