Abstract

In order to study the number and the distribution of vessels originated from the renal arteries , as well as the filling up of renal territories, 30 pair of kidneys of adult pigs (15 males and 15 fema les ) have been used. Once obtained the preparations after injection of vinyl solution and corrosion, the following conclusions have been reached: 1 - The renal arteries, always one, unique either originate from a cranial and a caudal branch (73,3 % to the right, 76,7 % to the left), which form a ventral and a dorsal smaller vessels, or a ventral and a dorsal branch (26,7% to the right, 23,3 % to the left) wich in their turns form cranial and caudal smaller vessels . 2 - Sometimes one or two collaterals come out from the cranial and caudal branches of the renal arteri es, on both sides, before they divide in ventral and dorsal vessels. 3 - In the majoritary of our observations, both the cranial and the caudal branches originated from the renal arteries, are not limited to the homologous territories; the same occurs when the renal arteries form directly ventral and dorsal branches. 4 - The filling up of the renal territories, in the majoritary of the preparations is not carried out only by the collaterals of the corresponding branches.
