Abstract

In 1924, Blaise Cendrars, working on an ambitious "propaganda film about Brazil" project with Oswald de Andrade, had the chance of witnessing the outbreak of the 1924 Revolution, viciously disbanded by the federal government. This experience left a deep impression on his imagination and buried his plans of shooting the film in Brazil, based on episodes from the history of São Paulo. One of the elements which brought together Cendrars and Oswald was their commonly-shared desire of becoming diggers-moviemakers.
