Abstract

This study is a bibliographic review of the work of various classical and modern Brazilian writers, in special Sergio Buarque de Holanda and Caio Prado Junior, having as a guide line the relevance of rural question in Brazilian history. Some particular concepts are discussed, such as the distinction, proposed by Buarque de Holanda, between the "agricultural civilization" and the "civilization with rural roots" that molded much of Brazil's specificity.
