Abstract

This report intend to describe the proteic-energetic malnutrition associated with the intestinal parasites in a group of 149 children of both sexes between the ages of 3 and 72 months from Mirassol D'Oeste in the Projeto Polonoroeste region of Mato Grosso State. The data collected were: sex, age, weight and fecal samples. The weight/age data obtained was analysed using GOMEZ's criteria. The National Center for Health Statistic (NCHS) was used as a reference model. The Hoffman, Pons and Janer methods were used for the diagnosis of intestinal parasites. The majority of the group studied consisted of undernourished children. The majority of these were ''slightly undernourished", rather than "more undernourished" or "seriously undernourished". Intestinal parasites were found in 69% of the sample studied. The most common protozoon was Giardia lamblia and the Ancilostomideo was the helmint most found. The X² test did not show dependence relation between the nutritional state and the frequency of intestinal parasites.
