Abstract

Despite the small number of Luís Saia’s architectural projects that have been found – most of them, residences, not all built -, their analysis improves when faced with his writings on architecture, all of them from the 1950’s decade. We can see harmony between Saia’s thoughts and projects and the panorama of Brazilian and international architecture of the time. But perhaps the most interesting question are his ideas on the design process, which are reflected in its design activity. In the complexity of this process, he analyzes the role of rationality and technique, but especially the place of creativity and poetic imagination.
