Abstract

When drafting sanitation projects for Brazilian cities, the engineer Francisco Saturnino Rodrigues de Brito defended the need to jointly develop aspects pertinent to the field of urbanism. Brito’s understanding of how to think the city was detailed and developed at the time he worked for the São Paulo Sanitation Commission, in the context of his Santos Plant in 1905-10, and Notes sur le tracé sanitaire des Villes (1916). The analysis of these two works, along with the discussion and the problems that occurred in Santos, constitute the central objective of this work.
