The architecture of Salgado Neighborhood

This article presents a portrait of the architecture and origins of the 'Bairro Salgado', built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, in the city of Setúbal. Aimed at building houses for the owners of canning factories of the time, it is characterized by buildings of architectural and heritage quality that mark the urban landscape of Setúbal. However, it has been criticized for abusive intervention in terms of preserving the existing heritage, as the inadequate or, in many cases, the absence of specific legislation for the location, promotes the disappearance of the still existing specimens. Tactics to safeguard the heritage are demanded that include the preservation of the still existing architectural specimens, combined with the memories of the place.
