Abstract

Before the development of the commented translation of De Architectura (1521), Cesare Cesariano interprets the vitruvian's symmetria based on Milan's Duomo, a building from the XIV century. The translator-commenter elaborates a co-modulation system to the building grounded on triangle's, square's and circle's geometry. The study of the images presented by Cesariano allows to clarify graphically the triple system that governs the construction of the Duomo's ichnographia, orthographia e scaenographia. The established alliance between the building's drawings and these geometric forms reveals how Cesariano assimilates the simmetrie euritmiate from the homo ad quadratum and ad circulum on conceiving the whole organism, the building.
