Abstract

Antonio Francisco de Paula Souza is always remembered as professor and director of the Escola Politécnica of the São Paulo, and few studies have focused his professional activity as engineer before his entrance to the academic career. This engineer had remarkable work in the sanitation sector, with the design of water and sewers systems for the cities in São Paulo state's hinterland. Working for the State he organized and directed public departments related to the sanitation. We wish to uncover new information about the professional career of this engineer, and thus understand the creation of the sanitary infrastructure, paramount to the urbanization of São Paulo.
