Abstract

The present article outlines a revision of Bruno Taut’s assessment by architecture and art historians. While Taut has been considered a utopian and visionary, we interpret his work as an attempt at dealing with the most urging aesthetic and political questions through principles other than those of strict rationalism. Giving special attention to the use of color in his projects, we describe Taut’s conception of architecture as philosophical and critical rather than detached from reality.
