Abstract

The environmental requirements for buildings have led to the creation of Buildings Environmental Performance Certification Systems, which have been used in the Brazilian scene, regardless to its specificities and needs. The objective of this paper is to promote an analysis of these certification systems inadequacies to the Brazilian context. The comparative analysis of the certification systems has shown several evaluative items fully applicable to the Brazilian context and others that need to be adapted. This analysis may serve as a basis for establishing guidelines for the further development of an environmental certification system for residential buildings in Brazil.
