Abstract

This text is about the legal protection processes of Ilê Axé Iyá Nassô Oká or “White House Yard” in Salvador- Bahia, the oldest candomblé yet in use in Brazil and the first to be legally protected in 1986 by IPHAN. Then discusses the difficulties of understanding the specificities of this heritage property by that agency, difficulties that still persist today, particularly with regard to the ordinary management of this patrimony.
