Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease that presents a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations caused by the chronic inflammatory state. Association with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome occurs in approximately
36% of lupus patients. In these patients, the underlying disease and the chronic use of corticosteroids contribute to accelerated atherosclerosis, a complication that adds increased cardiovascular risk. We report a case of stroke in a 25-year-old patient with systemic lupus erythematosus and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome.
