Development of Didactic Book as Tool for Health Education of Patients Undergoing Breast Cancer Treatment

Abstract

Breast cancer, which is globally prevalent, significantly affects women in Brazil and remains the leading cause of female mortality. Despite advances in oncological treatment, patients continue to face psychosocial challenges and adverse effects. A didactic book was developed as part of a randomized controlled clinical trial; this educational material addresses six key health components, providing accessible information for women undergoing cancer treatment. With a focus on color psychology, structured organization, interactivity, and expert review, the book serves as a practical educational tool. Educational resources can enhance health education among women with lower educational levels, a group often associated with more advanced stages of the disease. This project, implemented in hospitals in São Luís, Maranhão, Brazil, aims to improve patients’ daily lives through educational self-care strategies during cancer treatment.
