About 1% of all live births will have congenital heart disease and will require specialized pediatric care
(1,2) . If we include the acquired heart diseases, this number will certainly increase considerably. Patients with these entities may present in different ways, often requiring a multisciplinary approach in order to achieve a good therapeutic result. We present a summary of the most frequent clinical situations requiring the presence of the pediatrician and of the cardiologist, most of them ocurring in a hospital basis.
