Abstract

This article is based on the lecture with the same title presented by the author at the “Planning and Conducting Clinical Trials of High Scientific Evidence” meeting organized by the LAPOMH Laboratory which was held at the Ribeirão Preto Medical School (University of São Paulo) on 5 July 2008. The article discusses the role of the statistician in the design, data analysis and interpretation of the results from a clinical trial, and its contribution to improving the accordance with the CONSORT checklist.
