The main objective of this article is to introduce undergraduate medical students to the concept of psychosis. The authors discuss the criteria for diagnosing psychosis and provide an overview of the epidemiology and risk factors for psychotic disorders such as: childhood trauma, cannabis use, migration, discrimination, social disadvantage, and skin color. The observation of these factors is essential in the evaluation of psychiatric patients, as it helps in predicting the development of psychosis.
