Abstract

Trauma and emergency system organization has been extensively discussed worldwide in the last years. Different models have been proposed, mainly in developed countries. Although there is no doubt about the benefits of organizing an emergency and trauma system, there is no evidence to sustain one best model. In summary, main differences among the models are medical activity in the pre-hospital field and the recognition of an emergency medical speciality in the hospital’s emergency rooms. In Brazil, nevertheless the current Health Minister policies focused in the development of a national emergency system, the emergency sector needs better statements, investments and commitment of health care formation institutions.
