The interstitial lung diseases are a non homogeneous group of disorders, which anatomical abnormalities occur within the regions of the lung distal to the terminal bronchioles. These diseases are generally studied all together, because they share common clinical, radiological, and physiological features. In this article we discuss the differential diagnosis of these complex processes. We also discuss in greater detail some of the most important interstitial lung diseases in the daily clinical practice.
