In early 80’s, the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome was initially recognized from the outbreak of Kaposi’s sarcoma and Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia among young, previously healthy homosexual men. Kaposi’s sarcoma is the most frequent neoplasm associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Although Kaposi’s sarcoma pathogenesis is not clear at all, the disease has been associated with the presence of a sexual transmitted herpes virus. This paper intends to review and update some topics about HIV/Kaposi’s sarcoma pathogenesis and therapeutic aspects.
