Acute infections caused by respiratory viruses are the most frequent infections of mankind. Respiratory viruses that cause common infections in normal hosts have been increasingly recognized as a cause of respiratory infections in immunodeficient patients. This paper briefly reviews clinical and epidemiological aspects of these infections, highlighting their significance in patients with compromised immune function.
