Infant mortality in S. Paulo in 1976 was studied to find out just how much birth weight may influence infant mortality. Birth weight was found to be an important factor, but not as great as in other population groups. Evidence suggests that infant mortality in S. Paulo can be reduced by actions against factors influencing physical and social environment, rather than against factors linked to newborn vitality.Downloads
