Ventilatory indices during physical exercise

Abstract

An exercise test of simple procedure, for testing ventilatory function, is presented with results being expressed through the indices proposed by Cournand & Richards, Haebisch, Warring and Lian. Average, standard deviation and confidence interval for all indices obtained testing 40 normal persons of both sexes are presented. Results show that, with the exception of Lian's index, all other indices thus obtained may objectively inform on the results of exercise on the ventilatory function, thus being potentially useful for the evaluation of working capacity.
