Within the limits of the system of collection of vital statistics in our milieu were presented Infant Mortality Rates for Salvador, there a steady decline is taking place, presumably due to improved water supply to the Capital of the State. Data in the interior of Bahia are unreliable since more than a third of infant deaths occur without medical care. There, the infections diseases are the leading cause of death. It is concluded that infant mortality in Bahia is closely related to the environmental conditions and to the socio-economic level of the population.Downloads
