Population aging poses new challenges for the assessment of quality of life and occupational balance among older adults. This article aims to describe the development process of the EQO-60+: Occupational Balance Assessment Scale of Daily Activities for Older Adults. The methodology followed five stages for the development of health assessment instruments. The theoretical framework is grounded in the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework: Domain and Process (4th ed.) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), as well as in a review of international instruments. As a result, the EQO-60+ comprises 40 items distributed across nine occupational categories. It assesses both objective and subjective dimensions, including frequency, time use, motivation, meaning, perceived efficiency, and the influence of the physical environment. The instrument is intended for independent older adults (aged 60 and over) within the cultural contexts of Portugal and Brazil. The inclusion of dimensions such as spirituality and leisure enhances the sensitivity of the instrument. Although currently undergoing validation, the EQO-60+ shows potential for clinical, educational, and research applications, with future development of brief and digital versions anticipated.
