The importance of dentists in the "corpo de delito" examination, 460 cases of assaulted women

Abstract

The present research has the objective of evaluating the importance of dentists in the exam of "corpo de delito" and the profile of violence thrat young women seen by LMD (Legal Medicine Department) in João Pessoa city. This survey has, as basis, the files of the results of the exams realized in the period from june/1995 to june/1996, totalizing 13 months. The sample was constituted by 460 persons, aging between 12-45 years old, relating to the profile age of the female sex. According to the bibliographic revision and the survey analysis, the following results were gotten acheeved 73,18% of the assaulted women live in poor areas, almost 80% of the assaulters are poor men, 37,2% of them correspond to partners. The regions of the women's body that were more seriously hurt were the members; 65% of the women presented facial lesion; 22,2% of them, corresponding to the region of the orbits and 20,9% to the labial region. This high index of facial lesions show the importance of the dentist in this kind os exam, not only to quantify the injury, but also to qualify the lesions legaly.
